You're from the UK, aren't you? On the UK keyboard mapping activated by 'keyb uk', there are *two* characters that look like the 'pipe' symbol used in MSDOS command lines like dir | more They should look like one vertical bar with a hole in the middle, and the other without that hole. One is correct, the other isn't. It's just a matter of discovering which is which (I don't remember which one is, sorry).
