You could use any number of things. RHIDE and Emacs for DOS. RHIDE is pretty
easy to use, Emacs is not (it requires a bit of a learning curve). For
Windows there are things like DFE. Failing that, just use notepad and a
command shell. How hard can it be for the students to learn how to type:

gxx myfile.cc -o myfile.exe
