DPMI is needed for *all* djgpp programs, no matter how little they do,
because djgpp's compiler produces 32-bit code and DPMI is used to
manage the 32-bit address space itself, not just the interface back to
DOS.

However, the FAQ does have tips on reducing the EXE size by other
means.
