Why do you need to write it to a file?

If you just want the two bitmaps to be the same I think you can just go

*img2 = *img1;

But if you just want it as a file, you could use the Allegro call

int save_bitmap(char *filename, BITMAP *bmp, RGB *pal);

in the Loading Image Files section of Allegro Docs
