This probably doesn't help you much but I have been able to run all the
Allegro demos without a mouse, except of course things that needed a mouse
didn't work.
Maybe you have a problem with youre hardware setup?
For instance my mouse driver will think a modem is a mouse but strange
things happen when programs try to use the mouse that's not a mouse :)
