The problem he's having is something completely different from the "cannot
open -lstdcx" glitch. To wit, here is an excerpt from the original post
(which you even quoted):

Now, does anyone here have a clue what THAT means? I've never heard of such
an error. It looks like some kind of DOS problem. Maybe increase the
config.sys files= to 40 or 50? The default of 20 may be too low for stuff
that opens lots of temporary files like a typical gcc compile.
