I suggest to read section 18.11 of the FAQ. In particular, it tells
you that on a 386SX/16, even a 1KHz interrupt rate will eat more than
1/2 of the cycles. So I'd say that for 50KHz rate anything less than
a P120 won't do.
Section 18.11 also has advice on how to design your program so that
interrupt handling has as little overhead as possible.
If you have already read the FAQ, please ask more specific questions,
based on what is described there.
