Thank you for your comments. You are absolutely right. I checked that simply by running the code on the HP/UX machine where it worked like expected. Sorry. I should have had that endian stuff in mind. Seems to me that I was a captured in the intel world far too long. Thanks again. I have to go and swap some bytes now. Dalitz.
