No need to do that. Get mingw32 (gcc port for Windows), and email
dph-man AT iname DOT com, he's got it working with DirectX.
Sorry I know this is off the newsgroup topic but I wanted to let as many
people as possible know that they don't HAVE to buy a product that they
don't want just to use DirectX.
