Well protected mode is used in djgpp, to access the other features of the 386
(i.e 32-bit addressing, ram above 1MB). It does protect against crashses,
via exception handlers. I think you should read some docs on th 386 first to
find out more about it. If you want you can ask me questions directly about
the 386 and protected mode (at tomstdenis AT goplay DOT com).
