Normally is a MUST (capitals). Because VGA cards uses I/O ports in
the 0x3Dx space and mono cards in the 0x3Bx space.
Now ... if one of your VGA cards supports memory mapped I/O ports
(some PCI cards support it I think most of the new models does) and
you have some knowledge about video boards you can do it. But is
*very* difficult if you don't know about it.
Basically you must put out the BIOS of one of the boards (perhaps not
needed for an ISA/PCI pair), cross your fingers, and if the machine
boots program the card without BIOS to emulate a mono card. I know is
possible, never tried.

What? I'm developing a video driver and I'm amazed of what RHIDE can
do, of course, the VESA BIOS must be a good one. Trident BIOS looks
very good.
