But for changing the current directory? Do you mean that bash itself executes
the commands, like this:
@echo off
cd c:\over\there
dir
...landing you in "c:\over\there" and never invoking command.com? I have
version 1147 and doing that seems to show the contents of c:\over\there
without changing the current working directory.

Yes, and I prefer the bash command history feature to DOSKEY's history...and
it's line editing to DOSKEY's--I'll stop now.
