I'm just getting back into 'C' programming after about a 2.5 year
sabbatical (Ok, the truth is, I get paid to do VB now...however I miss
C terribly and want to get back into it)
Anyway, DJGPP looks like a cool tool to use to write the game that's
been sitting in my head for a while.
I want fancy 3D graphics in my game.
I don't need speed, just quality.
I *think* OpenGL is the way to go here.
Is MESA the best way to do OpenGL with DJGPP for a DOS app? Or does
MESA *require* a Windows app?
Is there another 3D lib besides MESA that will give me nice rendered
polygons and meshes?
Briefly reading the Allegro docs I noticed a mention of various
shading models. Is there support for polygons or meshes under Allegro?
I don't have anything against doing a Windows application, but it
seems like a DOS app is easier under DJGPP. If this is not correct
please point me to a source of info about doing Windows apps under
DJGPP.
Also, please give opinions about a GUI library. Since I'm a DJGPP
newbie, and I've been trapped in the slick and easy world of VB GUI
I'd like something simple to program. All I need are buttons and a
window to display the rendered game board.
I'll admit that I have not fully RTMed. If all the answers I seek are
in the docs, I'll be glad to read them more thoroughly, I will anyway
as I dig deeper into DJGPP, but I figured I'd get started collecting
info about 3D and GUIs sooner than later...
Thanks!
