Please describe the shortest way to reproduce these problems,
including the exact text of the lines in your AUTOEXEC.BAT which set
HOME, how you invoke Emacs (please use the -q switch), and in what
directory. I tried to reproduce this problem, but couldn't. I use
Emacs 20.2 for a long time, and never had such problems.
