This is not really on-topic, but oh well...
I am using MS-DOS 5.0. (Don't laugh.) I had 16 MB of RAM but have now
upgraded to 48. However, it seems HIMEM.SYS will only give me ~16 MB of XMS.
This is obviously a problem, since it means I can't use my new memory for
DJGPP. The memory *is* there, it works fine when running Linux.
I suspect this may be a limitation in DOS 5.0. My question: Can anybody out
there using DOS 6.x tell me whether HIMEM allows them more than 16 MB of
XMS? I'd like to have some idea it will help before I upgrade. If anyone is
still using DOS 5, I'd like to know whether >16MB works for them.
And please don't suggest Windows 95. I'm opposed on moral grounds.
TIA
