Subject:	textout() colors

If I am using 32 bit color depth, but it seems like the number of colors
available to textout() is limited.  Is this so?  

How can I use *any* color with textout(), and how can I be sure what
each number will represent (because I wasn't aware that some pallete had
been chosen for me in the first place, since I am using 32 bit color)?
