Maybe.  2.8 had a really long development time.  The code generation engine
is pretty solid.  Most of the bugs are config related.

Huh?  Are you waiting for PGCC to be GCC based again?  Not going to happen.
PGCC is based on EGCS, which if anything, is even newer than gcc 2.8.
