That may work for NASM, but not for GAS. In AT&T syntax, you'll need
something like this:
.data /* Place in correct section */
.global _tmp /* Leading underscore needed to interface to C programs. */
/* Maybe that should be an option? */
_tmp:
.byte 0x61, 0x73, 0x6b, ...
.byte ...
