In that case, the README.dos file in the distribution deserves that
large commendation, because it tells you to set LFN=y in the
environment. This is also mentioned in the file INSTALL (look near
the end, where the MS-DOS installation is described) and in the file
PROBLEMS which describes the exact problem that you had (search for
the string "flashing").

DJGPP v2.01 comes with LFN disabled by default in the DJGPP.ENV file.
