This should work, but only for the `cm' family of fonts.  For other
families, you might need to change this path.  But don't worry about
this until you actually see some error message.

This will also probably work in most cases.  The only cases where it
could fail is when some environment variables should be defined before
MakeTeX... programs are run, which is quite rare.
