Subject:	Quake.exe: not COFF

My problem originated with quake but i found that the djgpp compiler has
the same problem.

When i first installed quake and djgpp in dos it worked fine... but when
i went to windows and exited (even withour running programs) the files
got messed up giving me the error: 

  xxx.exe: not COFF

any ideas on why this would happen?
when i user winzip to open the djgpp zip files and run it through winzip
they dont give me the error...
