I wanted to thank all of you who replied to my post.  The problem was the 
LFN = y statement in the djgpp.env file.  I also did have the spaces 
around the equal sign but changing this did not fix the problem. Only 
when Nate eldridge suggested changing the lfn=n to lfn=y did I make any 
progress.
