Huh? The userid isn't cryptic. I think you're referring to the real name.
The reason it seems cryptic is because it contains accents or other
special characters which your terminal/newsreader doesn't understand; so
it just starts it with a tag saying it's encoded using ISO-8859-1. 

Besides, chfn doesn't have a time limit (that I'm aware of...).
