This is to announce the availability of the DJGPP clone for the Unix
`man' command. You should be able to download it from your nearest
SimTel.NET mirror. The main mirror site is:
ftp://ftp.simtle.net/pub/simtelnet/gnu/djgpp/v2apps/man10b.zip
ftp://ftp.simtle.net/pub/simtelnet/gnu/djgpp/v2apps/man10s.zip
This clone supports both Unix-style man/{man,cat}N directory
structure, and flat docs directories like many DOS installations
have. Unlike on Unix, the man page files can have any extension, not
only .Nx (where N is a number and x an optional letter). (The program
ignores Info files and compressed *.z* files.)
The program was tested both in interactive use (from the DOS prompt)
and as a subprogram of Info and Emacs (both of which can display man
pages).
You need to install Less (v2gnu/lssNNNb.zip), since `man' pipes the
man pages it finds to Less. Alternatively, you can configure `man' to
use another pager by setting the PAGER environment variable. The
README file and the on-line docs have more details.
Displaying unformatted man pages requires to Groff to be installed
(get v2gnu/groNNNb.zip). Man pages which come with DJGPP binary
distributions *b.zip are always formatted, so you only need this if
you want to install and browse man pages from other sources.
