Not that I am aware of. The file format was completely redesigned
between versions 2.11 and 2.2, but the newer library is still able to
read the old file format.

And you haven't changed anything since then? I'm not clear what versions
of everything you are using here: you made these files with Allegro 2.1,
but are you still using them with that version, or with 2.2?
If they load correctly into the grabber program, I don't think there can
be anything wrong with the file itself. Maybe your program could be
running out of memory? Try using the symify utility to locate the exact
position of the crash (it might help if you change the Allegro makefile
to build a version without any optimisation and with the -g flag).
