anyone interested in trying the latest version of vim for dos can get
the source from:

ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/misc/editors/vim/beta-test/unix/vim-5.0m.tar.gz

this compiles with no modification using the base distribution of DJGPP.

this version of vim has syntax highlighting.  some future version will
have a perl interpreter built in.
