There's no need to apologise for being new to DJGPP. However, new
users are advised to read the DJGPP FAQ list (available as
v2/faq210b.zip from the same place you get DJGPP) whenever they have
any problems. The FAQ includes many issues that were posted in the
past to this forum, so it will save you quite some time.
For example, the answer to the question you posted is in section 9.4
of the FAQ.
