I know nothing about this nor could I find it in the docs. Have you any idea
what it's supposed to do?

A namespace is the conceptual space where names live. ;-) For instance, in
C, global variable names inhabit one namespace, and local variable names
live in another. This allows you to have global and local variables with the
same names and not have a conflict. You may see references to the effect
that "library X clutters the user's namespace." This means that a lot of
external symbols are defined for the library's purposes and could
theoretically conflict with the user's code (although most have names like
_____library_X_do_stuff).
