Was this with snapshot 0509 or 0522?  Your problem is 99% sure 
to be stack size related.  0509 had only 700K stack space.  0522 had 
2 MB.  I tested 0522 with some pretty large files and didn't run into 
problems.  I do remember Marc mentiontioning that he had found a 
package that required 40MB of stack space, and there was no way I 
was going to stubedit cc1 to that size and distribute it.

You can always stubedit higher if you have the memory.  Also,
as optimization options increase, so do memory requirements.
