I have no idea if this is any help to the original problem, but my AMI Bios
has an option called "OS/2 With Over 64M: Yes/No". Since OS/2 is also a
protected mode/DPMI server, I'd guess this is related. Don't know myself
since I don't have that much ram. You could check your Bios for something
similar.
