Allow me to clarify.  Doom was originally written on a NeXT cube machine
using
the NeXT step operating system, with objective C, using the GNU platform.
 Then,
it was ported to Intel using Watcom C, and DOS4GW.  At least that's what
I read
in "More Tricks of the Game programming Gurus"
