This is explained in the DJGPP FAQ list (available as v2/faq210b.zip
from the same place you get DJGPP).  Section 7.1 lists ``normal''
compilation speed and points you to another section where the optimal
system setup is described.  With only 8MB RAM, your system might
indeed need some work to set it up.  Installing 16MB would probably
make things easier.

(In general, GCC compilation speed is about half of BC.)
