Allegro doesn't currently have any driver for the EMU8000 part of the
AWE/SB32, so yes, it will just use the Adlib synth driver (which
incidentally is the same thing as the OPL).

Solution: write a native EMU8000 MIDI driver. A couple of people have
recently expressed interest in working on this - if you are interested
in helping out I can put you in touch with them and point you towards
all the EMU8000 information I've managed to locate (unfortunately not a
great deal at the moment).
