Its great! I've just started using Allegro, but I have already
accomplished a lot more than I would have without it.
One of the hallmarks of a good programmer is using existing tools to
greatest benefit. Coming from another environment (Amiga), it would have
taken me many months to figure out how to use the sound-blaster, but Allegro
provided the head start I needed to create a quickie sound-sample utility in
only a few days (still in progress).
Any system is worthwhile using if it provides what you need or want.
Particularly when it is free! In fact that seems so obvious that I'm
starting to wonder if I really understand your question ;}
