This might be a totally silly idea, but generally, should someone new post
to the group, doesn't the, err, newsgroup bot? notice that there's a new
name in the list? If so, perhaps it could bounce the FIRST post back, and
tag on a list of questions which have been asked, along with the simplest
answer which solves the question, along with a guideline on using the
subject line to properly phrase the question, ie:
HELP! I can't find something!
Which might better be phrased:
HELP. GCC is asking for program (such&such)
Which also by using the first word of 'HELP.' would cause the newsbot to
access a database of Q&A. If the bot doesn't find anything pertaining to
the question, it could strip the 'help' out of the subject then post the
message, or if the person asking the question doesn't understand something
about the answer, he could simply repost the question without the 'help'.
Might save numerous responses of 'did you set the environment?' or 'did
you download package so&so?' and possibly even, 'did you unzip using the
-d option?'
