Mike , I don't have the problem , after another 20-hours study DJGPP.
Type "set" at the DOS-prompt , you should see
djppp:=c:\djgpp\djgpp.env etc.
If not then : Change your autoexec.bat file
set djgpp=c:\djgpp\djgpp.env
set path=c:\djgpp\bin;%path%
