I wrote a big Gnu C++ program called AAEMACS (a text editor). I put in its
README file these instructions for people running it as compiled by djgpp v1:-
> AAEMACS (and other Gnu C programs) will not run if the PC is in V86 mode
> with no way to get back to real mode: thus it not run if EMM386 with the
> NOEMS option has been called in that PC since it was booted last. If on
> being called, AAEMACS dies part way through saying that it can't read file
> INFO.DAT, try inserting the line EMM386 ON in your C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT and
> rebooting.
I know that the version as compiled by v2 needs a DPMI server; but what else
conditions does it need, including the current state of such things as EMS and
SMARTDRV etc that are often called from AUTOEXEC.BAT?
