It turned out that in get_simple(...) function formula for calculating the size of memory to allocat was wrong . The size calculated could be negative which would cause a crash with message " Virtual memory exceeded in `new' " . The worst part of this bug is that the crash does not leave you anything , gdb can't even tell you at what line it died . Thank you . Paul
