*NO* swap space? What kind of Windows installation is that?? Please
check these items (in that order) and post the results:
- free disk space (before and after starting Windows)
- the type and size of the Windows swap file
- do you use 32bit disk access and (if that's Windows 3.11) 32bit
file access?
- the settings of XMS and EMS on the emacs.pif file you use (yes,
I know it's from the distribution, but check anyway)

Does this change also happen if you run any DJGPP program other than gcc?

Can you please try to run `temacs.exe' on this (problematic) system, as
well as on a machine where Emacs works, and report the results? Don't
expect too much from `temacs', but it should start, show the startup
screen, allow you to use some basic editing commands, and exit without
crashing. This is how you should invoke `temacs':
temacs -l loadup
