Did you copy the allegro.h and liballeg.a file to the djgpp\lib
directory?

Try fopen(). This might be what your looking for.

I have found the easiest way to write a header file is to look at
other ones, and imitate the authors style. For example: print out
allegro.h and read through it (not exactly the easiest thing to do).
Then, when you are writing yours, follow the same style.
Maybe this will help...

Ordinairly, this is were my signature would go, but recently a nice,
delightful little bootsector virus decided played tackle football
with my hard drive. I have not felt the urge to be witty or creative
and think of a new one.
Your loss.
