Regarding item (2) (and I'm assuming you're talking about a DOS port of =
tar, here), get an I/O redirection program which redirects standard =
error as well as standard output, then you should be able to capture =
tar's output.

2 matters not directly djgpp-related, but they arose from djgpp work:-
(1) I want a program that will translate a Windows .HLP file into TEX =
or
HTML or something format so I can edit the result into a legible paper
printout with my choice of format.
(2) I tried to run the packer/unpacker called TAR. As it said that it =
is
from GNU, I mention it here. It has one big fault: when I type `tar =
+help',
the help output comes out all at once, the top of it shoots off the =
screen so
I can't read it, and it totally ignores `> T$' and `| MORE'.
