Having seen this twice recently, maybe this is a bug in the mail/news gateway
and not in a certain newsreader.
It seems that some people get duplicate dots when they are at the beginning
of the line, while others (e.g. me) just see the correct single dot.
Could maybe someone check the gateway software if it is correctly converting
this. Since dots at the beginning of a line occur in Makefiles, this seems
to cause some confusion.
