This file is generated by the program compiled with -pg when it runs.  
Please check if this happens for any program (e.g. "Hello world") or just 
for the specific program you are talking about.  If every program 
compiled with -pg shows this behavior, please add -v to your 
compilation/link command line and post everything that gets printed then.

It might be the problem if you link in a way that prevents gcrt0.o to be
linked instead of crt0.o.  Why can't you link with -pg?  What is the
command line you use to link, and how does it fail?
