Hi!
===
I don't want to reply to all of your questions because surely there are people
on the list who know better, but there's one point I'd like to make:

Yes, there IS one ultimate reference to C++, it's Ellis/Stroustrup "The
annotated C++ reference manual", short ARM, which contains answers to a huge
amount of subtleties concerning desing & usage of C++ language constructs.
IMHO it's much better even for an introduction than, say, Stroutrup's "The C++
programming language" because it's much more precise, and: It's a reference, so
you can expect to FIND ANSWERS. - What's more, it contains the definition of
the language instead of a description of some arbitrary implementation with all
the bugs usually going along C++ compilers (DJ, excuse, GNU gcc is to blame...)
MY proposal for the second book would be a language-independent introduction to
object-oriented design...
- One question of personal interest:
Could You give me some pointers to locations in the net where I can find DELPHI
related stuff? Some advanced database access components for example? HOW-TO's?
Are there cool places for free components? -
I know that things such as WWW search engines and newsgroups exist, but there's
a lot noise on these channels, so I'd be glad to get some hot spots from an
experienced DELPHI programmer such as you are.
Thanx in advance, Your's, Sven.
PS. Your email address is ending in .za - What's this for a country?
