QEDIT can be configured to automatic expansion of tabs to spaces, conversion of 
spaces to tabs and no conversion at all. Maybe this is the best choice for 
programming with djgpp.

You can change this while editing (keys depending on your configuration of 
qedit) or set the default-value by QCONFIG.EXE
