The best place to look is on one of the x2ftp mirrors. Try: ftp://mirrors.aol.com/pub/x2ftp/msdos/programming/djgpp2 I'm using the graphics library allegro2.zip (I believe it works under v1.12). It comes with complete source code (ASM and C). Its fairly easy to follow. The file 'gccfaq10.zip' may also be of use to you (there are source code examples of accessing VGA memory as well as setting DMA for sound blaster IO.... it may answer some of your questions).
