I think this one deserves a public apology.
Yes, my face is red. Thanks to all who pointed out, rather politely
given the tone of my own message, that RFC 822 says something
completely different from what I said. I have read RFC 822 through
several times recently, and somehow conflated the rather more specific
directives concerning "From:" and "Sender:" with the "Reply-To:"
specifications. I was answering mail offline and didn't have the text
of the RFC in front of me, mea maxima culpa. (That means this week
I'm only 9 for 10---of 10 really stupid flames I wrote this week, one
actually escaped to the mail system. :( )
However, despite the specific example in RFC 822, I still think it's a
bad idea for most mailing lists, including DJGPP. I've stated most of
my reasons (which are still based on RFC 822, this time not improperly
interpreted :) before, so I won't repeat them.
