Hello All,
Everytime I use gcc under DV/X it completely locks up DV/X 2.0. I've
installed the latest maintenance release up to 1.12m4, but no cure. I
had no problems on exactly the same system with 1.11 up to m5.
On my AMI 486/50DX with AMI caching SCSI controller, I have had no
problems with GO32 1.12 or the maint1 and maint2 patches. I don't
have maint3 or maint4 installed there, and GCC is 2.6.0 I think. (I
do have problems with recursive makefiles running out of space for
GO32, but that at worst locks the window, not DV/X.) I used to
regularly build Ghostscript in that environment, so big programs could
be built.
On my IBM StinkPad 330cs (486/50SL2), I have problems under DOS;
eventually the hard disk locks up and asks me to shut its door (!) I
suspect it's cache-related, but I've never been able to induce the
problem with less than about 70 compilations, and doing 70
compilations without a cache on that system would just take too long.
That's a lot longer than your "few seconds," anyway. I would tend to
suspect the cache, though. I believe that problems with Hyperdisk
have been reported on comp.os.msdos.desqview, but I haven't been
reading that in a while.
The problem manifests itself for example when I recompile gcc itself.
Most of the time I only have about a few seconds...
Is this a known bug? Does anyone else experience it? Any suggestions?
Some other info:
- I use DV/X 2.0, Qemm 7.04, Dos5.0
- I use HyperDisk 4.7 as disk-cache
- It's 1 486/33DX with 20MB RAM
