Try JED (available from amy.tch.harvard.edu in /pub/jed). It even comes
with a DJGPP-compiled executable. It can do color syntax highligting and
spawn compilers, etc. [No, John doesn't pay me for these plugs :-) ]

JED defaults to Emacs emulation; the latest version includes kill-ring
support, and a good AucTeX emulation is also available.
