Intel has made some patches available.  Those folks at the FSF
(and here at Cygnus) who've looked at the patches say that they
need a *lot* of work before they can be folded into the mainstream
gcc sources.  One remark was that it looked as if the Intel opti-
mization would cause gcc to generate worse code for some other 
targets than it does now.
